The Monkey King

Monkey King, aka Sun Wukong, is the main character in the classical Chinese epic novel “Journey to the West”. He possesses an immense amount of strength, has superb speed and also knows 72 transformations, which allow him to transform into various animals and objects. He is a skilled fighter, capable of holding his own against the best generals of heaven. Each of his hairs has magical properties, and is capable of transforming into a clone of the Monkey King himself. He also knows various spells in order to command wind, part water and freeze humans, demons and gods like.

Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.  It was written by Wu Cheng’en and published in the 1590s during the Ming Dynasty. The Monkey King stories are mingled with Chinese fables, fairy tales, legends, superstitions, popular beliefs, and monster stories as well as Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.
